The Sertoma SPIRIT Program is a cornerstone of the camp experience, intentionally designed to support the social, emotional, and leadership growth of Deaf and Hard of Hearing campers. SPIRIT provides a structured yet flexible framework that helps campers build confidence, self-advocacy skills, and a strong sense of belonging within a fully accessible environment. The SPIRIT Program also serves as a fundraising initiative that empowers campers to earn their way to camp by raising funds for their camp adventure!

Through this initiative, campers take an active role in making their camp experience possible. With the support of family, friends, and community members, campers participate in fundraising efforts that help cover the cost of camp while building important life skills such as goal-setting, responsibility, and self-advocacy.

Campers who participate in the SPIRIT Program will leave camp with:

  • Increased confidence in expressing their needs and ideas

  • Stronger peer connections and a deeper sense of community

  • Improved problem-solving and leadership skills

  • Greater self-awareness and pride in their identity

  • Tools they can carry into school, family life, and their broader communities

Rather than simply attending camp, campers become invested in their Camp Adventure. This process reinforces confidence, pride, and ownership, helping campers arrive at camp feeling accomplished and empowered before their experience even begins.
